Immersive theater refers to “viewer-immersive” performance, where the boundary between the stage and the audience is broken, allowing the audience to actively participate or influence in the development of the play. Roulette is an immersive musical based on the Naver Webtoon Roulette by Oh Minhyuk, which left a strong impression despite its short serialization.
A lively party is held at the mansion where Poe lives. He invites his estranged brother Doyle, who lost his memory 15 years ago in an accident, and proposes a deadly game: if Doyle wins, he will inherit the mansion and all its wealth, but if he loses, he must give up his life. The audience also participates in this brutal game. Characters like Pride and Lust, who serve as MCs leading the party, move between the stage and the audience, showcasing the strengths of immersive theater.
One important thing to note: Roulette has a pre-show that begins 30 minutes before the main performance. During this time, the audience is gradually drawn into the play’s party atmosphere by participating in a roulette game with the actors. The chips earned during this pre-show play an important role in the main performance.
