Introduction

The Forest Chosochaekbang, located in the middle of Inwangsan Mountain, was originally built as a guard post to protect Cheong Wa Dae before its renovation. The guard post was built after the Kim Shin-jo incident in 1968 and symbolizes the pain of division and confrontation. In remembrance of the historical past, some of the exterior brick walls and the iron door were left intact during the remodeling process. Today, it is a bookstore and cafe that is surrounded by glass walls, allowing one to clearly see the inside from the outside. Inside the bookstore, visitors can enjoy an excellent view of Namsan Tower through the glass walls. The bookstore seeks ways to promote an environmentally friendly atmosphere by using biodegradable sugar cane straws and showcasing a special section that features a collection of books that raises environmental awareness.
